The thrilling 11-inning clash where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a aggregate 51 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB reported this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.
Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.
It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.
In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.
In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.
The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two straight seasons.
Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.
The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after 2017.
MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 various languages.
