Former Federal Bureau of Investigation head James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to making false statements to US legislators and impeding a lawmaking procedure.
Mr Comey's legal representative submitted the answer acting as his counsel in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.
The defense lawyer declared he would try to have the legal matter terminated for various reasons including that his client, a opponent of President Donald Trump, was being targeted.
The former director was charged just days after Trump urged his attorney general to take action against him.
In court on mid-week, Comey's lawyer Mr Fitzgerald advised the court they planned to present multiple motions to throw out the legal matter before a court case, arguing the legal action was vindictive and that a government lawyer was wrongfully assigned to take over the proceedings.
Mr Comey's case was first managed by Erik Siebert, who left his position under scrutiny from Trump after his examination into an additional rival - NY AG Letitia James - was unable to initiate prosecution.
Mr Comey appeared in positive mood as he came into the courtroom on mid-week, speaking with his attorneys and making jokes. He was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Failor and offspring Maureen, a federal prosecutor who the previous administration terminated.
After listening to the judge state his rights and the two counts against him in court on mid-week, James Comey was questioned if he grasped the accusations.
"Yes your honour. Appreciate it," he informed the proceedings.
James Comey was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2013 to 2017 and was dismissed about a few months into Donald Trump's initial presidency as president. At the time, Mr Comey was leading an examination into international campaign influence and whether there were any relationships between Moscow and the presidential campaign.
While in office, Mr Comey caused a backlash from liberal politicians when he declared just immediately preceding the national vote that he was investigating Democratic candidate Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Charges against Hillary Clinton were not pursued, leading to disapproval from the Republican party as well.
Government attorneys assert James Comey gave untrue statements to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in 2020 when he was being examined about both the email probe as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They claim he deceived the upper house by claiming he had not approved someone at the agency to release to journalistic entities data about the FBI investigations.
Prosecutors also charge James Comey of "corruptly endeavoring to affect, block and slow" the committee by making false statements to it.
Via social media James Comey published to his Instagram after he was indicted, he declared he was not guilty and accused the former president of behaving like a "dictator".
"My family and I have been aware for a long time that there are costs to opposing Mr Trump," he commented. "We will not live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he added. "Therefore proceed with a legal proceeding."
These allegations against Mr Comey came after Trump posted on online platforms insisting on his chief prosecutor, the attorney general, charge James Comey and other people.
