Labuschagne Omitted from Australian One-Day International Lineup Versus India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-game ODI series against India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a unexpected call-up.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI side following being dismissed for one in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 ODIs and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test recall ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Team Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia look for a answer to their top-order woes.

Pace Additions and Fitness News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after having time off since excelling for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he aims to recover from a spinal issue by the time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from October 29.
